09/23/2009 I think this could be utilized K-12 -- an exciting interactive 3-D globe: www.bing.com/maps/ OR just google "bing maps" You will have to go to the link and download the 3-d maps to your computer. After it's downloaded, you can pull it up on your SMARTboard, click on 3-D (and I prefer the "road" map -- aerial map of the whole world is too hard to see on the board). Next, click on the circle in the upper left corner of the map that has arrows in it (looks a little like a compass). After you do that, you can drag your finger on the globe and spin it around in all directions -- the kids think it is amazing! To zoom in, you just double tap the board. We've zoomed in to 9th street and then clicked on aerial and seen our school, the sports complex, etc. You can click on the - and zoom back out too. I think it really gives kids a new perspective on our small part of the world in the grand scheme of things. I've made it a hyperlink within power points and it works really well. Have fun! 09/30/2009 Welcome to all of the Pike Valley faculty/staff! It's fun to think that I began my technology journey with you. My class is having a blast with our document camera and Smart Board. Rather than doing vocabulary worksheets this year, I put up a Word document and allow students to write in possible meanings after reading the words in context. Then we switch to the novel under the document camera and use the actual text to check for accuracy. I am still struggling a bit with "accidently losing" our writing when we don't hit "restore" in time. Does anyone know exactly what causes this? Sometimes it seems very random. I am also interested in getting with someone who has successfully built a Smart activity with interactives. JoDee Rothfuss jrothfuss@usd333.com CMS teacher
